The first EU Real Alternatives 4 LIFE Train the Trainers programme held in Friterm Akademi
The first EU Real Alternatives 4 LIFE Train the Trainers programme held in Friterm Akademi

Within the scope of Real Alternatives 4 LIFE (www.realalternatives4life.eu) project where SOSIAD is a social partner, train the trainers programme had an excellent start with its first event in Istanbul at the Friterm Akademi on 12-14 March 2019 with 15 RAC instructors. The project is co-funded by the EU LIFE Programme for environmental initiatives.

This is the first train the trainer session out of 6 training events across Europe aiming to licence REAL Alternatives 4 LIFE training centres for low GWP refrigerants focusing on CO2 and Flammables.

The event started with the opening speeches of Mr. Metin Duruk- chairman of Friterm, Mr. Naci Şahin-Eurovent president and Mr. Turgay Karakuş- chairman of SOSIAD. Project coordinator Ms. Raluca Sisiu from IOR (Institute of Refrigeration), UK and Mr. Marino Bassi from project partner ATF (Associazione Tecnici del Freddo), Italy have participated as observers.

Kıvanç Aslantaş, who successfully completed the orientation training at UC Leuven Limburg in Belgium talked about working safely with R744 (CO2) cascade systems, R744 as secondary refrigerant, operating characteristics of transcritical systems, booster systems and the introduction of R744 systems at the Friterm Academy Applied Training Centre on March 12 and 13. Then, R744 charge and discharge service applications were shown practically on the specially produced three-sight glass pressure vessel. The participants had the opportunity to examine the components, working principle and data on the transcritical system.

Barış Uçaner who successfully completed the orientation trainings on hydrocarbon (HC) flammable refrigerants in the IKKE training centre in Germany presented general characteristics of flammable refrigerants, safe operation, reduction of leakage potential and system design differences with Marino Bassi from ATF-Italy on March 14. Charge, discharge and vacuum processes were applied on a domestic freezer containing R600a.

At the end of each sessions, the “instructor” certificates were presented to the participants who passed evaluation exam.

Resources developed as part of the project offer innovative blended learning - a mix of e-learning, face-to-face training materials, practical exercises, assessments and an e-library of learning resources.
